Nies Homes Receives Avid Benchmark Award

Customer service. In today’s ever-changing, fast-paced society, the strong need for exemplary customer service remains the same as it did decades ago. But how people perceive customer service has changed as demands have changed. And companies are having to devote time, effort and funds to ensure they are matching what their customers are needing.

One of the keys to building our relationship with our clients is to ensure we have a strong, unmatched building experience. Yes, we are the builders. But at the end of the day, when our customers take the keys to their beautiful new home, we want them to know that the whole process evolved around providing them the best experience and customer service they could receive.

In our quest to continue to build stronger customer rapport with our clients, we enlisted the services of Avid Ratings Co. We knew they would be able to help us take our customer service experience to a whole new level, allowing us to provide better customer engagement and measure our success.

We recently received word from Avid that we were awarded a 2017 Avid Benchmark Award for our South Central region. More than 95% of our customers expressed they would refer and recommend us. We couldn’t be more humbled and honored after hearing the results.

It’s truly a team effort – not only because of our exceptional team that takes the extra steps needed to make Nies what it is today – but also our amazing clients, who daily make us thankful we work in the industry that we do.

However, we won’t stop there. We appreciate the feedback, our partnership with Avid Ratings, and the nationwide award recognition. And we will continue to exercise our due diligence to maintain and exceed our customer service expectations.

2017 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway Tops 2016

Another St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway campaign has come to a close and with it brought more record breaking numbers. 8,500 raffle tickets were reserved in an astonishing 4.5 days, almost two days faster than 2016. $850,000 was raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, $200,000 more than 2016. And we had more than 5,000 people tour the home during the six weeks of open houses, several hundred more than 2016.

And while memories have been made and lots of laughter – even tears – have cumulated, we are once again humbled by the amazing support Wichita and the surrounding communities have shown to the patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as they’re fighting the toughest battle of their lives.

There is some sadness as we close this chapter on our 2017 house. Bella, the face of our home, is leaving next month for Memphis. Just as we were in the beginning stages of our 2016 Dream Home campaign, her family received word her tumor was growing again. And it is still growing despite undergoing various types of chemo. So now Bella and her family are heading to St. Jude to start a six week daily treatment of radiation at St. Jude’s state-of-the-art proton therapy center.

It’s because of fundraisers like the Dream Home Giveaway that St. Jude can offer proton therapy, the most advanced radiation for treating pediatric cancers, completely free for its patients.

So, in closing, we want to thank our trade partners, vendors, construction donors, sponsors, local patient families, ESA volunteers, St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway team, donors, volunteers, Nies team, KSN, The Wichita Eagle, KFDI, The Fox and FFO Home, plus many more who donated hours, time and materials. And we want to say thank you again, Wichita and Kansas, for such an amazing year. We’re going to give ourselves a little breather, but rest assured, we’re already beginning our 2018 planning so be sure to check stjude.nieshomes.com for upcoming information.

2017 St Jude Tickets SOLD OUT!

Thank you Wichita and Kansas

8,500 2017 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway tickets. 2,000 more than 2016. We wouldn’t be honest if we didn’t admit we were all a bit anxious as to how this onsale would go.

The end result? We were ecstatic and humbled by the generosity and support from Wichita and Kansas. Again.

At 5 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, the 2017 Wichita St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway tickets became available to the public.Within two hours, 2,000 tickets were already reserved and the phone lines were full.

Five days was all it took for the tickets to run out, beating last year by one day. And $850,000 was raised in support for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In a busy world right now, filled with chaos, depression, anxiety and conflict, it’s invigorating to watch a community come together to help lighten the load for children who are fighting for their lives. Yes, we’re building a house together as a community and raising funds to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. But it’s so much more than that. We are showing these families they aren’t facing their battles alone. Entire communities and states are putting aside differences and reserving tickets, hoping not only to possibly win amazing homes and fantastic prices, but also knowing even if they don’t hold the lucky ticket, they are still playing a role in finding cures to end childhood cancer.

So thank you again, Wichita and Kansas. We couldn’t be more proud of our state and city.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is upon us and yet this amazing, special, memorable holiday is already in the shadows of the elaborate Christmas season. Christmas trees are in full display, cards already arriving in the mail and the mall Santa has arrived earlier than usual.

But aren’t we skipping over one of the most important “loved one” days? It’s a chance to truly share with someone how much they are appreciated. It’s a time for moms and daughters – or sons – to bond over getting the lumps out of the mashed potatoes while in the other room boisterous cheers for a favorite football team can be heard. Or for me, it’s one of my favorite days to laze on the couch with my kids and watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade, a tradition my parents used to do with with me and my siblings.

While no family is perfect, whenever a family can be together, it becomes a day that families and friends reflect on good memories from past traditions and skeletons are put in the closet, forgotten and set aside. But with the hustle and bustle of every day life, it’s hard to remember what makes Thanksgiving truly special.

While writing this blog post, I thought about a couple ways you might be able to make this Thanksgiving special for you and your loved ones.

Here’s a couple ideas:
1. Make a little extra Thanksgiving deliciousness and share with the homeless.

There is nothing more special than the feeling and knowledge you have helped someone else. And what better example for the younger generations than showing kindness for those less fortunate.

2. Take away all cell phones and really appreciate the time together as a family.

How nice it is to sit down and have an actual conversation without constantly checking social media, email or checking in with Google.

3. Invite someone who may not have family or at least family close enough to drive/fly in for the holiday.

You never know, you might learn about other fun traditions that you’d like to incorporate into your holiday festivities.

4. Make a point to be positive and refrain from negative discussions.

This one is hard to do, but it can change the whole atmosphere of your holiday gathering.

5. Play a game or take a walk as a family.

Who knows, this walk may lead to finding the perfect Christmas tree.

While it’s easier to purchase that store-bought pumpkin pie, think of the extra minutes of laughter or fun while you roll the pie crust out with your family or friends. Or take that extra minute and appreciate the younger generation that’s in your house. Remember, you’ll never have this minute together again.

Wishing you all a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

2017 St Jude Dream Home Groundbreaking

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, we broke ground on the second annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house. The home is located again in The Oak’s Lookout Pointe in Derby, KS.

And we’re off and running. Our sub contractors and trade partners have already gone over and beyond with their pledges for donated materials. Bella Bush, the continuing face of our Wichita area St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, is doing well with her new chemo treatments. And more people understand exactly what this fundraiser means to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

One thing we’re doing differently this year – besides a totally new floorplan – is we are focusing on making this home a community effort. While attending builder meetings at St. Jude late this summer, Star Lumber’s Randy Chippeaux commented how proud he felt about our Wichita community with the other builders came up to us and congratulated Wichita on such a successful 2016 campaign. The success of last year is because Wichita and the surrounding area really stepped up and showed what a true and caring community we are. So this year we want to continue that feeling and really make this home special with a team effort.

The new home won’t disappoint. This house is 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom house with a total of 3,814 finished square feet. There will be a bonus room above the garage, a man cave in the garage with sliding doors, plus a wine room and craft room located in the basement.

Tickets will go on sale March 1, 2017 on KSN-TV. Open house tours begin in April with the giveaway date of May 17, 2017. We’ll have 8,500 tickets this year so we’re eager to raise $850,000 for the children of St. Jude.

We just want to thank everyone who has already offered time and materials to the new house. If you want to help, give us a call at 316.684.0161.

Here’s to another great year.

2016 ST JUDE BUILDERS SUMMIT

2016builderssummit
left to right: Curtis Cowgill, Karrie Meyers, St Jude Thaddeus, Clyde Jones, Marty Bean & Randy Chippeaux

On August 22, more than 30 builders across the United States gathered together in Memphis, Tenn. for St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway Builder Summit 2016. Two jam-packed days included hospital tours, learning about the innovative proton beam therapy plus all coming together as friends to celebrate raising more than $9 million in fiscal year 2016 for the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This year Nies Homes invited three Nies representatives, Vice-President Curtis Cowgill, Superintendent Marty Bean and Marketing Consultant Karrie Meyers, as well as two subcontractors, Star Lumber’s Building Materials Senior Vice President Randy Chippeaux and Drywall Systems’ Residential Manager Clyde Jones.

The intent of Builder Summit is an opportunity for the builders and their vendors to be reminded of what the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway program is truly about. It’s a chance to visit the hospital and to learn the latest research and technology advancements that are always changing at St. Jude.

We also are in “training.” We get refreshed on ways to interact with the media and learn the latest dollar amounts brought in by the ticket sales of our St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway houses. We get an opportunity to hear from our national sponsors – Brizo, Trane and Shaw Flooring – and see the new product lines they are offering for our homes. And we hear how other builders are getting their communities involved with their St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway houses.

But most importantly, it gives us a few days to set our usual work aside and take a moment to reflect on the vision and purpose of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Through the stories we hear from both former and current patients, we realize just what a remarkable and unique facility St. Jude truly is. And Builder Summit gives us an opportunity to walk away with hope. Hope that the homes we build in our communities help in the fight to find cures for childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases.

WICHITA ST. JUDE DREAM HOME WINS BEST DREAM HOME CAMPAIGN AWARD

IMG_6161

We can finally share the exciting news.

The 2016 Wichita St. Jude Dream Home campaign received the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Best Dream Home Campaign Award.

The award was presented Sunday, July 31, in Memphis, Tenn. Recipients of the award were Nies Homes’ Vice-Presidents Cherie Nies-Cowgill and Curtis Cowgill and KSN News Director Denise Killian.

IMG_6174

And while we had the privilege and honor of accepting the award, this award wouldn’t be possible without our amazing sponsors, vendors, contractors, subcontractors, Nies Homes team and the amazing Wichita area communities. Our near-record breaking six day sellout is a true testament of your generosity.

The awards ceremony was held in the Memphis Cook Convention Center and was hosted by ALSAC President and CEO Richard C. Shadyac, Jr. Other attendees included worldwide donors, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ALSAC staff, St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway staff and St. Jude patients and families.

IMG_6183

The Nies representatives got to tour the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. During the tour, they learned that 75% of the hospital funds come from fundraisers and public contributions and that it costs more than $2 million daily to run the hospital.

IMG_6166

But here is where St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is unique. Not only does the doctors, staff and scientists help the families that attend the hospital, but they also share all their findings with hospitals, doctors and scientists worldwide.

And the huge impact St. Jude has on children across the globe can be felt here in Wichita too. From Bella and the Bush family, who are currently undergoing treatments for Bella’s brain tumor, but also other local families who have received the help they need through treatment at St. Jude. And it doesn’t end with patients. Our local doctors and nurses who daily use the research and findings coming from works published by St. Jude.

So while we aren’t doctors, and we aren’t scientists, we are home builders. And we can build a beautiful home for someone with the knowledge we are playing a part to help find cures for childhood cancers and help make life a little easier for patients and their families.

So while we sit back and look at the beautiful award our community received, we are already planning the 2017 Wichita St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house. Watch for more details in September.
And thank you again, Wichita.

Today is the giveaway day!

NIES HOMES ACQUIRES EAST WICHITA’S FRONTGATE DEVELOPMENT

frontgate-logo-pressrelease

Nies Homes, Inc. has completed the acquisition of Frontgate, an elite patio home development located on East Central, between Greenwich and 127th Street. “We are excited about acquiring the authentic, boutique community,” says Nies Homes’ Vice-President, Cherie Nies-Cowgill. “There are lots of locations where people can build homes, but nothing compares to this unique, limited-lot community.”

Nies Homes met in February with the current residents at Frontgate. At this meeting, homeowners received detailed plans for both long and short-term improvements to the development. Residents were also encouraged to express changes they felt would be an asset to their community. Already many changes have happened. Updated landscaping with more than 20 new trees can be seen throughout the development, a water feature has been installed in the lake and new branding can be seen in both the entrance and Clubhouse signage. “The folks at Nies are first rate developers,” says Jack, a Frontgate resident. “They do what they say they will do, on time and as promised. They have committed significant resources to greatly improve the development in a very short period of time.”

One of the many unique elements to Frontgate is the comradeship of the residents, making it a distinct choice for new homeowners wanting to be part of a community in which neighbors watch out for neighbors. “We have lived in several beautiful neighborhoods in the past, but have never experienced this sense of community,” says Denise, homeowner. “We know every neighbor’s name. We have neighbors that range from the 30’s to retired individuals and families, which we believe make the perfect blend.” A spacious Clubhouse, conveniently located at the front of the development, is used on a monthly basis for neighborhood events, but can also be reserved for private parties. The entertainment facility has a complete kitchen with two refrigerators, a large exercise room and community pool, which is in the process of being converted to salt water. Nies Homes has updated the decor and also added pool-side patio furniture.

Frontgate’s Cape Cod-style homes start in the mid-$300,000 and feature spacious floor plans, full basements or on slab, quality architecture and high-end elements. All lawn and common area maintenance is included, allowing homeowners to enjoy time with their family and friends. “We know that we made the right move to Frontgate, ” says Denise. “We are confident that the charm and lifestyle that attracted us to Frontgate will be further enhanced by Nies Homes.”

Frontgate is also marketed by Weigand New Homes.

The St. Jude Children’s Research is the only institution of its kind solely devoted to leading the way the world looks at, treats and defeats pediatric cancer and other deadly childhood diseases. St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and from more than 70 countries around the world. And because St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Merry-Christmas-Happy-New-Year

It’s the most beautiful time of the year. Even without the forecast of snow, our hearts are brightened by twinkling lights, holiday parties, kids’ school programs, shopping for the perfect gifts and laughter. And maybe even the excitement of a few days off work.

If you have kids, chances are you’ve seen the movie Polar Express or heard Josh Groban’s “Believe.” In the song, Groban sings, “When it seems the magic slipped away, we find it all again on Christmas Day.”

The weeks before Christmas can be stressful and crazy trying to make sure everything is ready. Then Christmas Day arrives. The day when eager hands rip open those carefully wrapped presents. Receiving compliments from your dinner guests over the five-course meal you prepared. Following Family traditions and making new ones of your own. Stories read and songs sung of a time long ago when Jesus was born, not in a shiny new custom home but in a simple stable.

And the smiles, laughter and new memories make the stressful weeks before simply disappear. And we find the “magic” on Christmas Day.

So this holiday season, take a minute to remember why we celebrate Christmas and don’t lose sight of what’s truly important.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thanksgiving Thankfulness

Thankful. Gratitude. Two key words on the minds of everyone as we near the Thanksgiving holiday. We all have much to be thankful for. And how blessed we are to be able to take a break from the craziness called life and reflect on the individuals that bring memories and value to our daily lives.
This year we’ve seen a lot of changes for the Nies team. We’re thankful for both the new faces and the old that make up our staff. We’re thankful for the clients we’ve met and have the privilege of helping them build their beautiful new homes. We’re thankful for Phil Kean and his design group and the inspiration they’ve given us to build the first ever Wichita WAYCOOL home. And we’re thankful for the continued relationships with our all our vendors, contractors and subcontractors.

We’re also thankful for the life-changing partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the building of the first ever Wichita area St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway home. In October several of the Nies team went to Memphis, TN and toured the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. They witnessed first hand the amazing impact St. Jude has on each of its clients. They heard stories of thankfulness from patients and their families. Those stories were overflowing with gratitude for the doctors and staff. In a time when anger could be most prevalent, tears flow from kind words and actions.

A story that stood out the most was that of the chef who was preparing food for the little boy getting ready to start chemo. When asked what he wanted, the little boy said his grandmother’s macaroni and cheese. The chef prepared Kraft macaroni and cheese. The little boy declined the food, saying it wasn’t his grandma’s. The chef, realizing the scared little boy simply needed something comforting, called the grandmother and secured the much-desired recipe. How truly blessed the world is to have kind individuals who would do anything to bring comfort and peace to those in need.

Albert Einstein said it best when he said, “Strive not to be a success but rather to be a value.” You can’t put a price tag on the individuals that have brought value to your life. We know we can’t. And it’s working and meeting people every day that make us so thankful for what we do. Being thankful and appreciating what we have right now, at this very moment, is truly the deepest type of joy one can experience.

So in closing, we want to challenge each of you to take a minute and think about those who have brought so much value to your own life. And we also extend our blessings to you and your families on this Thanksgiving.

WAYCOOL Update – 11/05/15

We thought we’d take a minute and update you on the progress of our modern-prairie WAYCOOL home in Flint Hills National Residences. This 6-bedroom home is a first for the Wichita area. And we are excited to show you how quickly it’s changing as we continue the build process.

The framing is complete, with this home having more than 6,700 square foot of living space. With the floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows, the home doesn’t lack in Kansas sunshine.

We have wanted to bring a new type of custom home building to Wichita. We appreciate the builder relationship with architect and designer Phil Kean and his design group. They have inspired us to take our level of custom home building to a new level. For more information on Phil Kean and his designs, visit waycoolhomesus.com.

We are still on target for this home to be complete in time for Wichita Area Builder’s Association’s 2016 Spring Parade of Homes. wabahome.com.

Check back as we will continue to post blog updates on our progress.

Nies Notice – Marty Bean

marty-bean-02

This week Nies Homes wants to recognize Marty Bean, who is the project manager for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway home. He was literally the first one at the ground breaking ceremony and hasn’t slowed down since, as we move past ground breaking to the foundation stage.

When asked his feelings as he attended the October 27 ground breaking ceremony, Marty says, “I am really excited to be a part of all of this and honored to be overseeing this project for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”

Back in the 90s, a former employee of Marty’s had a son with cancer in his eye. The eye needed to be removed and was replaced with a glass one. Marty says he remembers how everything was payed for, including hospital fees, travel, everything. “It was amazing,” he says.

Be sure and drive by our St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house, which is located at Lookout Pointe in Derby’s The Oaks. Or check back on NiesHomes.com as we continue to provide updates on the home’s progress.

You’ll be able to reserve your ticket beginning in March, 2016 with the giveaway on May 25, 2016. All proceeds from the ticket sells will go back to helping the doctors and scientists at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in their search to find cures and treatments for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Ground Breaking Kicks Off Kansas’ First Ever St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway

This week has been a big step for Nies Homes as we hosted the ground breaking ceremony to officially kick off Kansas’ first St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house. It’s been many long months of planning. And we are honored to have been chosen to build this custom home to show our support for the doctors and scientists at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as they find cures for childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases.

We can’t put into words the feelings we had as we watched the ground break amid the cheers and whistles from our trade partners and vendors. Being a part of the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway and supporting St. Jude has become life-changing for all of us. And it wouldn’t be possible without the support from the the Cities of Derby and Wichita plus the outpouring of support from our trade partners, subcontractors and vendors. For that we are truly thankful.

First Ever St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway in Kansas

Nies Homes is proud to announce we have partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and is Wichita’s builder for the 2016 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. Since it’s creation in 1991, the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway has given away more than 394 homes and has raised more than $320 million to help save the lives of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

St Jude Dream Home - 02

Wichita’s St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house features more than 1,950 finished main-level square-feet and features five bedrooms and a three-car garage. The home will be located in Lookout Pointe in Derby’s The Oaks, a serene golfing neighborhood. The home showcases an east-facing back yard, large custom kitchen, front porch, wood floors, high-end products and fixtures, and views of the fairways from both the front and back of the home.

There will only be 6,500 $100 tickets available, starting in Mid-March. Visitors will get their chance to see the custom Nies Homes’ 2016 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house at open houses every Saturday and Sunday, beginning April 16, 2016. The lucky winning ticket will be drawn May 25, 2016 and announced on KSN-TV.

The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway was created in 1991 by Dr. Donald Mack, a pediatric doctor from Shreveport, Louisiana. He is an Ameritus member of the ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Board of Directors and Governors and has relied on St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to treat many of his young patients with devastating diseases. The first St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway house was constructed in Shreveport and raised $160,000 for the kids of St. Jude.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and cures childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since the hospital opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

WAYCOOL update 09/04/2015

Things are still drying out around here but it was dry enough for the plumbers to start work on the plumbing rough-ins. Once they have all the underground work done, we will pour the basement floor and be on our way! Check back next week for another update.
